There are two types. Both types of applications can use many different methods.

a) Exposed zipper

The exposed zipper is not covered or hidden by fabric, which may be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. Zippers can provide color emphasis and texture variation for styles. Exposed zippers can be used with seams, but do not require seams. The exposed zipper application is symmetrical and is typically used for the collar opening of knitted clothing, the front opening of jackets and sportswear, and the closure of pockets on various jackets. Exposed zippers require minimal fabric.

b) Closed zipper

The collar at the seam conceals the closed zipper. Closed zipper applications can be symmetrical or asymmetrical plackets.
